Gloucestershire’s Hannah Barwood (pictured below) has won the English Schools girls’ championship for the third time in four years.

“I am chuffed to bits,” said sixteen-year-old Hannah, who notched up her latest success at Walsall Golf Club. The England girl international also won the title in 2004 and 2006.

This year, torrential rain meant the event had to be reduced from 36 holes to 18. Hannah won with a score of 77, two over the CSS, and she remarked: “It was a good score considering the weather. It was playing a lot longer than it should and the greens and fairways were very wet.”

Hannah, who plays at Knowle, has also been selected as captain of the girls’ teams for the English schools’ internationals against Wales, in August, and Scotland in September. She captained the teams last year when they won both matches.

Hannah, who lives in Bristol, attends Oldfield School in Bath where she has been taking AS levels.

Her next big golfing date is for the English Ladies’ Golf Association. Hannah is in the England side for the European girls’ team championship at Oslo Golf Club, Norway, from July 10-14.
