Bryan Fotheringham Returns Leading Individual Score of 67 at the DSL SGU Am-Am held at The Dukes, St Andrews

Golfers from across Scotland assembled with the cream of Scotland’s amateur golfing talent from the past and present at the DSL SGU Am-Am yesterday at St Andrews.

Leading individual score of 67 was posted by Scottish Mens Internationalist Bryan Fotheringham from Forres, which was five strokes better than anyone else on the day.

In its sixth year, the annual event supported by Derrick Services Limited (DSL) was hosted again at the picturesque Duke’s Course, St Andrews in the hinterland of Fife, providing players the opportunity to play alongside stars from the national and international scene.

A dozen teams participated this year, with each team consisting of one leading amateur plus three other players. Prizes were awarded for leading teams and leading individuals, with special prizes up for grabs for the longest drive at the 6th and 15th as well as the nearest the pin challenge at the 3rd and 16th holes.

Among the field was the legendary Charlie Green, one of Scotland’s most successful amateurs who has represented GB&I five times in the Walker Cup and twice in the Eisenhower Trophy - before the event was contested individually by the home nations.

Boasting a record number of international caps, Green has lifted the Scottish Amateur Trophy three times and held the Stroke Play title twice. More recently on the domestic front, the experienced and seasoned Cardross player has won the Seniors Stroke Play Championship five times, and on four of those occasions consecutively.

SGU Order of Merit title race winner Callum Macaulay was also amongst the field. Macaulay, who recently added the Newlands Trophy to his list of accolades has just returned from representing his country at the Home Internationals last week.

Former British Amateur Champions Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire) and Forfar’s Stuart Wilson were also competing, along with rising star Baberton’s Paul Ferrier, who stormed to victory at Dunbar earlier this year to claim the prized Scottish Boys title.

Leading Scottish internationalists, Alyth ace Kevin McAlpine and Comrie power house Wallace Booth also starred in the line-up along with Craigielaw players Mark Hillson and former Boys Stroke Play Champion Shaun McAllister, who reached the semi final of the Scottish Amateur Championship after ousting his friend and club mate Lloyd Saltman from the tournament.

Peterhead’s Philip McLean and Scottish cap Bryan Fotheringham (Forres) also took part, whilst Scottish Amateur finalist Keir McNicoll from Carnoustie has had to withdraw due to a wrist injury sustained whilst competing for Scotland in Ireland last week. Former double Mid Amateur Champion, Allyn Dick from Shotts completed the field.
