Jack Nicklaus Reveals New Course Design Planned for Stonehaven, Scotland
Posted by admin under Features, General, Golf Travel, Latest Golf News, Scotland
A new championship golf course has been mapped out by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. The 18-time Major winner and his design team were in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, to inspect a site on a £40 million leisure development.
It includes an 18-hole championship course which designer Nicklaus says will provide a “memorable golfing experience”.
He has planned out the routing for all but four of the 18 holes, which will wind around Ury House on the Ury estate.
The golfer, known as the Golden Bear, said: “My input into the golf course and the project is to try and produce a facility that people will come here and play.”
Plans for the development include restoring Ury House and converting it into a golf clubhouse with function and conference facilities.
Edinburgh-based firm FM Developments were granted permission last year to create the golf course.
The Stonehaven development will be Nicklaus’ second Scottish golf course.
His first design was the Gleneagles PGA Centenary Course in Perthshire which opened in 1993 and will host the Ryder Cup in 2014.
American property tycoon Donald Trump is also a planning a £1 billion development in Aberdeenshire. That was given the go-ahead by planners earlier this week.
