Peterculter Golf Club’s Greig Hutcheon wins 2007 PGA Scottish Region Order of Merit

Peterculter’s Greig Hutcheon (pictured below) shall be celebrating victory in the PGA Scottish Region’s Order of Merit for the second year in a row - even though he finished a disappointing joint 58th in the final counting event, the Callaway Challenge at Lanark.

Hutcheon, 34, totalled 853.75pt from 11 OOM events, just ahead of runner-up Paul McKechnie (Braid Hills) with 841.88 from 10 events and Mark Loftus (Cowglen), the Scottish professional champion, in third place on 829.17 from 11 competitions.

It takes an exceptional measure of consistency to win the Tartan Tour Order of Merit title two years in a row. The only other players who have done it in the past 23 years are Scott Henderson (2003-2004) and David Huish (1984-85).

And Hutcheon is likely to finish with a double whammy of a season for he leads the Tartan Tour money list with earnings of more than £31,000 - some £5,000 ahead of his nearest rival, Mark Loftus.

The secret of Greig’s two Order of Merit triumphs is an advertisement for a winter holiday on the Algarve. The man, who was born and bred on Royal Deeside, goes to the Penina area every winter to get away from the cold, cold winter of the North-east of Scotland and is able to practise or play every day, which ensures that he can make a faster starter to the golf season than most of his rivals.
