The prestigious field of players comprising champions from Area Boys Championships, County Girls Championships as well as national champions have been invited to play in the new event.

The one day 18 hole scratch tournament, hosted at one of Scotland finest links golf courses, was organised following an expressed interest from Kingsbarns to hold a junior event.

The hosts have kindly supported the day by providing tee times, trophies and prizes which will be awarded to the top three boys and girls in the stroke play championship.

Commenting on the tournament, Hamish Grey, Chief Executive Officer of the SGU said, “This competition is a great opportunity for young players to test their ability against Scotland’s finest aspiring players. Providing a competitive experience for boys and girls at this level is vital for their ongoing development and progression in the game.

“We are extremely grateful to Kingbarns for hosting this junior event and we welcome their support. I am sure it will be a great success and I am hopeful that the tournament will become an annual fixture.”

Among the star studded line up is Troon Wellbeck’s Michael Stewart, a pivotal member of the Scotland Boys squad and familiar face on the international circuit as well as domestically, on the SGU Junior Tour. Baberton’s Paul Ferrier who claimed the biggest win of his career when he won the Scottish Boys Championship at Dunbar earlier this year, will also compete this weekend.

Scottish Schoolboys Champion Neil Henderson and Junior Tour winner at Kilmarnock Barassie will test his skills against fellow Junior Tour winners Paul Shields and Sam McLaren, all of whom were members of Scotland’s Boys Home International side this year.

McLaren is joined by fellow King James VI players, U16 Stroke Play Champion Ian Redford and former 14 Champion Paul McPhee.

Mortonhall’s Jane Turner, who recently claimed the East of Scotland Women’s Amateur Championship along with Pamela Prestwell from Bothwell Castle who helped steer Scotland to a second consecutive Girls Home International victory in South Wales – are just two names among the many county champions who will be rivals for the girls silverware.

35 Boys and 11 Girls will tee up from 10.30am on Sunday 21 October, and parents and spectators are encouraged to come along and support the rising stars of the future.
