R&A Name Royal Portrush as Venue for 2011 Seniors Open Amateur Championship

Royal Portrush, venue for the 1951 Open Championship won by Max Faulkner, is to host the 2011 Seniors Open Amateur Championship for the second time.

The Northern Ireland club on the Co Antrim coast first staged the Seniors in 2001 and has twice hosted The Amateur Championship. Joe Carr won the last of his three Amateur titles at Portrush in 1960 and Ian Pyman was the winner when the Championship returned in 1993.

The R&A has also named Hesketh as qualifying course for the 2011 Amateur Championship.

The Southport club was a Final Qualifying venue for the 1991 and 1998 Open Championships at Royal Birkdale and will also host next year’s Junior Open Championship before acting as the qualifying course when the Amateur Championship returns to Hillside Golf Club for its centenary in 2011.
