Chris Evert and Greg Norman annouce their engagement

Well into middle age, two all-time sport greats - tennis slammer Chris Evert and golf wizard Greg Norman - are now officially engaged.

Evert and Norman, both 52, made the announcement in South Africa, where the Australian-born former world number 1 golfer was playing in the South African Airways Open at Pearl Valley, the South African Press Association reported.

Evert, the former world No 1 women’s tennis player, made the announcement as she sported a massive diamond engagement ring.

“We got engaged on our way to South Africa,” Evert said soon after Norman had completed his second round of play.

Evert was speaking at a press conference where she announced the building of the Chris Evert Tennis Centre at Pearl Valley.

The facility is being financed by Leisurecorp, the Dubai company that operates Pearl Valley. Norman has a long-time relationship with Leisurecorp designing golf courses, and after his relationship bloomed with Evert, Leisurecorp asked her to set up a tennis centre in Dubai,
