Legendary Athlete Michael Johnson to compete in Rolex Pro-Am at 2008 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in Doha

41 year old legendary athlete Michael Johnson will wear spikes of a different kind when he competes in the Rolex Pro-Am golf at the 2008 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in Doha on Wednesday.

The American, who won five Olympic gold medals and was crowned World Champion nine times, is just one of a host of stars from sports and entertainment who have accepted invitations to play in the Pro-Am.

Johnson holds world records in the 200m, 400m and 4×400m relay and is the only male athlete to record a double, winning both the 200m and 400m at the same Olympics - in Atlanta in 1996.

Among the players lining up alongside Johnson will be golfers Scott Verplank of the US, defending champion Retief Goosen, world No 7 Adam Scott and Ryder Cup stars Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald, Paul Casey and Colin Montgomerie.

To be staged at Doha Golf Club January 24-27, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters will see the PGA European Tour make its second Middle East stop of the month after visiting Abu Dhabi.
