P.Diddy and fellow celebrities host golf tournaments to raise money for charity
Posted by admin under A-Class Celebrity, General, Latest Golf News, Mens Pro Golf
Not all the golf action next week will take place at the FBR Open - lots of NFL players apparently spend their spare time on the golf course.
P. Diddy will be teeing off with Nick Lachey in Scottsdale this week, along with Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo, Matt Leinart, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Fatone and dozens of NFL legends.
“Golf has always used celebrities to raise money. Many past and present players enjoy the game,” says Super Bowl NFL Charities Celebrity Golf Classic tournament director Nick Nicolosi, who has organized the Super Bowl tournament for over 20 years.
Valley courses will be the site of charity tournaments throughout the week, hosted by everyone from Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo, who is raising money to combat child obesity, to NFL Hall of Famer Len Dawson, whose tournament will benefit prostate-cancer awareness.
Here are three of the highlights of a busy week on the links:
NFL Alumni Super Bowl of Golf Showcase
Dozens of NFL greats like Ed “Too Tall” Jones will take in 18 holes of pro-am action. Each foursome will be paired with a celebrity to raise money for NFL Alumni youth charities.
7 a.m. Feb. 1. Gainey Ranch Golf Club, Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa Gainey Ranch, 7500 E. Doubletree Ranch Road, Scottsdale. $7,500 per foursome. 1-800-878-5437 , www.nflalumni.org.
uper Bowl NFL Charities Celebrity Golf Classic
For more than 20 years, the classic has been a showcase event during Super Bowl week. This year’s event features such luminaries as Truck Robinson and everyone’s favorite “keeker” from the ’70s, Garo Yepremian. Proceeds benefit the NFL’s YET (Youth Education Town) Center in South Phoenix.
10 a.m. Feb. 2. The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa, 300 Wigwam Blvd., Litchfield Park. $1,500 per person. 201-489-0049, www.nfl.com.
Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic
NASCAR champ Jimmie Johnson and pop and TV star Nick Lachey have joined forces to present this high-rolling skins game. Thirty-six celebrities will compete on each hole, winning $20,000 per hole to be donated to a charity of their choice. Guests include Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart and *NSYNC heartthrob Joey Fatone.
The tournament is not open to the public, but Johnson and Lachey are throwing a pre-show bash at Axis/Radius in Scottsdale, featuring P.Diddy.
Pre-show party: 8 p.m. Jan. 31. Axis/Radius, 7340 E. Indian Plaza. $175-$1,000. 480-970-1112, www.axis-radius.com.
