Posted by admin under Buyers Guide, General, Golf Putters, Latest Golf News

I kindly received a putter to try out from from Assay Golf, who distribute GEL Groove Putters in the UK.

Above, is the Diamond Putter, another gem in the Gel range!

I decided to get my son Graham J Gordon, the former European Boys Champion, Scottish Mens Champion and Walker Cup player (pictured with microphone below) to test out the ‘Diamond’ putter kindly provided by Assay Golf.

Graham currently uses a ‘Yes’ putter, given that biomechanical analysis has proved that the performance of a golf ball during the first portion of the putt is the most crucial element to direct the ball towards the intended target, grooved putters will therefore always outperform all other putters.

Graham J Gordon’s Analysis

“The use of groove technology in putters such as the ‘Diamond’ instantly creates impact forward roll on the golf ball, thus reducing the unwelcome effects of skidding.

GEL’s groove and insert technology, using a unique multi-layer aluminium insert, also allows weight to be positioned around the perimeter of the club head creating a high moment of inertia (MOI) so increasing the forgiveness and creating a truer roll. This delivers great feel and exceptional feedback.

The increased sweet spot, creates stability through the impact zone, increases the forward roll and most importantly take the hit out the stroke. My key objective is to rock the shoulders and “let the ball get in the way”.

The grip on the putter is provided with bright blue and yellow GEL Winn soft grip. The putter looks modern, colourful and striking with blue striking area.

The Putter is available in 34″ - 35″ lengths, was supplied in standard 2.5 degree loft and is made of 431 stainless steel with a black nickel finish.

The Putter sat nice and upright with a small bend in the shaft near the putter head. This construction enabled me to get my head directly above the ball and as a result was good visually. The unique mallet style with ‘hit me here’ mark allowed me to align with ease off the centre of the putter with a view to hitting a ‘pure’ putt each time.

The head weight of 360 grams is ideal for slow, medium and fast pace putting surfaces because of the groove construction which eliminates skid and helped me put top spin on my putt at impact.

One of the main benefits of this putter, apart from the above, is [1] if incorrect at address I would see the bright blue striking area and I should never start my stroke without the blade being square at address; and [2] a bad stroke inside or outside the line will result in the blue striking area becoming visible to the eye upon me making the putt - this is a big plus for golfers trying to perfect a consistent and repeating putting stroke!

Comes complete with trendy bright blue and yellow putter cover.

Available in left and right-handed models at approx. £100
