David Duval in great danger of losing PGA Tour playing rights during 2008

I was having a look at the completed 1st round scores at the PGA Tour Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club, L.A, USA when I spotted David Duval at the bottom of the list with a “Withdrawn” alongside his name.

David Duval, British Open

David started his round on the inward half and shot 41 which included 4 bogeys and a double-bogey. After bogeying his first two holes on the front nine, Duval retired with the official reason for his withdrawal being a neck injury.

Duval is playing on a Major Medical Extension after caring for his wife and children for most of the 2007 season. He must win over $700,000 in 20 events to keep his playing privileges for the entire season.

I’m not going to say the former British Open Champion at the testing Royal Lytham St Annes cannot achieve this target, but it’s looking real tough from where I’m sitting. Duval has not win since the 2001 Open Championship, has won just over $500,000 since 2004 and most of that coming in 2006 when he earned $318,276 in 24 events.

We wish you the best of luck David but you have a fight on your hands!

The Ed.
