South African Match Play finalists make big gains in R&A Mens World Amateur Golf Rankings

Jacques Blaauw of the Republic of South Africa (pictured below) won his third title of the season, claiming the South African Match Play title by beating four-time Walker Cup veteran Nigel Edwards of Wales at Royal Durban by the resounding margin of 6&5 in the 36 hole contest.

Four weeks ago Blaauw won his country’s Stroke Play Championship and followed up with another victory in the Free State & Northern Cape Open. He has made huge strides through The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking, climbing another 112 places this week to No 22.

Although beaten by Blaauw in the Match Play final, Nigel Edwards (pictured below) earned enough points in the Ranking to move up 15 places to No 13.

United States Walker Cup team members Webb Simpson and Jamie Lovemark swapped places in the top 10, Simpson taking over the No 4 spot.
