Scotland need Monty to get in rich vein of form or run risk of no 2008 Ryder Cup team representatives
Posted by admin under My Golf Returns
In the years of 1983 and 1987, Scotland had four representatives within Europe’s Ryder Cup team - Ken Brown, Sam Torrance, Bernard Gallacher (’83) Sandy Lyle and Gordon Brand jnr (’87).

More recently as 1999 Scotland boasted three representatives in former Open Champion Paul Lawrie, European Number 1 Colin Montgomerie and Andrew Coltart.
In the last three contests, Monty is the only Scot to have taken part. If the big man should fail to make the team for Valhalla, Louisville the home of golf will be without a Ryder Cup presence for the first time since 1937.
In my humble opinion, Colin Montgomerie is the greatest golfer to come out of Scotland, a national treasure and it will be a long time before his record number of European Tour Order of Merit wins is beaten. He was quite to express concern at the failure of more Scots to get to the top of the game via consistent performances on the European Tour.
Fingers crossed and here’s hoping Monty makes the team on merit!
The Ed.
