Walker Cup veterans Trip Kuehne and Nigel Edwards move up R&A Mens World Golf Rankings

Trip Kuehne, 36-year-old veteran of three US Walker Cup squads from 1995 to 2007, has lifted his position in The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking by 58 places to No 49 with a share of 15th place in the Azalea Invitational at Charleston, South Carolina.

His Great Britain & Ireland counterpart, Nigel Edwards of Wales, (pictured below) who has played four times in the Walker Cup, has climbed into the No 10 position. Earlier this year he lost in the final of the South African Match Play Championship at Royal Durban to Jacques Blaauw of the Republic of South Africa who has moved up 11 places this week to No 28.

Kuehne qualified for his fourth US Open in 2007 before winning the US Mid-Amateur Championship. In 1994 he lost the final of the US Amateur by two holes to Tiger Woods at Sawgrass and was a member of the USA 2006 World Amateur team. Both his sister, Kelli, a two-time US Women’s Amateur champion and brother, Hank, winner of the 1998 US Amateur are now professional golfers.

Edwards was a member of the GB&I teams that won at Sea Island, Georgia, and at Ganton in Yorkshire in 2001 and 2003. He combines his role as the Director of Player Development and Coaching at the Golf Union of Wales with top level competition. Last year he won the Duncan Putter and was runner-up in the Lytham Trophy.

WAGR No 1 Daniel Willett of England enhanced his position with an impressive debut on the professional European Tour where he finished tied for 19th in the Open de Andalucia with former Open champion Paul Lawrie and Ryder Cup player Miguel Angel Jimenez.
