A tie for first place in the Sotogrande Cup - European Nations in Spain has promoted Shane Lowry of Ireland (pictured below) 35 places to No 39 on The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking. He shared the title with Benjamin Hebert of France, the current European Amateur champion.

Shane Lowry - victory at Sotogrande moved him into WAGR top 40

A top-30 finish in the same event moved Franch No 1 Alexandre Kaleka up two spots to No 20. In the USA Chesson Hadley climbed one place to No 10 with a share of 18th place in the Administaff ASU Invitational at Champions Retreat, Georgia.

Lowry is the current Irish Closed champion and an Irish international who will represent Europe in the Michael Bonallack Trophy against Asia-Pacific at Valderrama at the end of the month. He celebrated his 21st birthday last week with victory in the West of Ireland Amateur Championship at County Sligo.

Kaleka, who will be 19 next month, is picking up where he left off last season when he finished eighth in the Lytham Trophy, was runner-up in the Scottish Stroke Play and claimed third place in the St Andrews Links Trophy.

Hadley had a good finish in last week’s United States Collegiate Championship at Lakeside in Georgia and earlier this season was fourth in the Puerto Rico Classic. The highlight of a strong 2007 was victory in the Carpet Capital Collegiate.
