Former Scottish boys match-play champion Lee Harper (Archerfield Links), who won on last year’s PGA Europrotour, posted a second-round 69 over the Dave Thomas designed Spey Valley course at Aviemore to remain in contention at the half-way stage of this year’s Northern Open.

Harper who has been working very hard with his coach Jim Farmer of St Andrews over the winter time posted a 2nd round 69 around this very difficult lay-out to be one stroke behind overnight leader Chris Doak.

Doak had followed up his first-day 68 with a 70 for an impressive six-under-par tally of 138 whereas Harper is on five-under-par 139.

Former Northern Open winner, Jason McCreadie, is in third place following a pair of 70s.

Best score of the day was a four-under-par score of 68 by Largs pro Eddie Thomson, who used to play on the Challenge and who is coached by Bob Torrance.
