European Ryder Cup Team Selection Hots Up After Major Automatic Selection Changes After The Open
Posted by under European Ryder Cup Table, Latest Golf News, Mens Pro Golf
Padraig Harrington winning The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale has propelled the Irishman up to 1st place in the The Ryder Cup World Points List, guaranteeing him selection for this year’s Ryder Cup.

This move and fine perfomances by Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson at The Open has resulted in both Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia dropping outside the automatic 5 places for those finishing in the top-5 of the World Points List.
Justin Rose has just managed to stay in the final 10th automatic selection position for the next 5 places on the The Ryder Cup European Points List, excluding the 5 automatic selections from the Worls Points List.
Garcia is lying 6th on the World Points List and 25th on the European Points List whereas Open runner-up Ian Poulter has moved up to 7th and 12th places on both lists.
Ross Fisher’s eight at the 72nd hole was a very costly mistake as he sky dived down the Open final leaderboard - he now lies in 15th and 11th on the Points Lists.
Soren Hansen, Oliver Fisher and Martin Kaymer, along with Rose, are clinging to a place and can expect serious competition from the likes of Poulter, Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey, Garcia, Daniel Chopra and Luke Donald (if he recovers full fitness).
There is still plenty of money to be won at the World Golf Championship Bridgestone and USPGA Golf Championship events over the pond plus the KLM, SAS and Johnnie Walker events in Europe, so there is still plenty of time for further changes.
Current placings as follows.
