Scotland name four new caps for 2008 Mens Home Internationals
Posted by Big G under Latest Golf News, Mens Amateur Golf
Steven McEwan from Caprington Golf Club, who was runner-up in the 2008 Scottish Mens Amateur Golf Championship will be one of four new picks in the Scotland Mens Team looking for victory on home soil when the 2008 Macdonald Hotels Home Internationals takes place next month.

McEwan is joined by Scottish Boys Champion Michael Stewart, Gordon Yates (semi-finalist at Carnoustie) and Ross Kellett making their first Home Internationals appearances as the Scots bid to regain the Raymond Trophy at Muirfield (3 – 5 September) after consecutive victories in 2006 and 2007.
Scottish Amateur champion Callum Macaulay and Scottish Stroke Play champion Wallace Booth, line up for a second time in the event. Blairgowrie’s Glenn Campbell will provide valuable experience for his sixth Home Internationals appearance.
Keir McNicoll, winner of both the St Andrews Links Trophy and Leven Gold Medal this season, will be hoping his liking for seaside golf will prove advantageous to a strong Scotland eleven, whilst Scott Henry – another double winner on the SGU Order of Merit circuit this year – makes his third appearance after being a member of the victorious team two years ago.
Paul O’Hara, who took Open Championship silver medallist Chris Wood to the final hole of his singles bout last year, is in the side for the third year in a row and Murrayshall’s Gavin Dear, the sixth highest Scot in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, also regains his place in the side.
Scottish Youth Champion Scott Borrowman and Arizona State University James Byrne from Banchory Golf Club can consider themselves unfortunate not to be selected, especially since O’Hara has never won an SGU Order of Merit Mens event.
The full Scotland side is:
1. Wallace Booth (Comrie)
2. Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie)
3. Gavin Dear ( Murrayshall)
4. Scott Henry (Cardross)
5. Ross Kellett (Colville Park)
6. Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan)
7. Steven McEwan (Caprington)
8. Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie)
9. Paul O’Hara (Colville Park)
10. Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck)
11. Gordon Yates (Hilton Park)
Reserves:
1. Scott Borrowman (Dollar)
2. James Byrne (Banchory)
