Curtis Cup captains rejects calls to include Europeans in future contests

Ireland’s Mary McKenna, the GB&I Curtis Cup captain, has rejected calls for the Curtis Cup to match the Ryder Cup and become a USA versus Europe clash despite the USA winning the biennial tournament for the sixth time in a row over the Old Course at St Andrews yesterday.

The Americans comfortably retained the Curtis Cup today around the Od Course at St Andrews by winning the opening four games on the final days play before going to record a 13-7 victory.

What is a reasonable time to play a round of golf in a competitive matchplay situation?

In the second days afternoon play at the Curtis Cup, the last match on the course, involving Alison Walshe and Stacy Lewis against Liz Bennett and Florentyna Parker, took five hours and 22 minutes to complete which is an absolute disgrace!

By the time this remaining match got to the final hole, most of the crowd had gone home. Is this what this golfing spectacle set out to achieve?

Despite a battling performance by the GB&I with some glorious golf, America go into tomorrow’s final day play with what would appear a comfortably three point lead.

Outstanding performances to date include Stacy Lewis and Alison Walshe remaining undefeated and Scotland’s Sally Watson having won three games out of four.
