English Golf Union to hold junior training match at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club

A feast of golf is expected to be served up when the England under 18 Squad face the Under 16s in a training match at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club on Tuesday 1st April.

Both eight-a-side teams are packed with talent, some of them the stars of tomorrow, and while many are close friends, there is expected to be some keen rivalry.

Warwickshire teenager Elizabeth Mallett – who plays in the English Women’s Golf Association Select Midlands Squad – has kick-started her season with two early wins.

The 13-year-old from Sutton Coldfield Ladies’ Golf Club won the Droitwich girls’ open by two shots and then followed up with victory in the Warwickshire schools’ championship at West Midlands.

Buchanan Castle Golf Club, which joined forces with the national junior golf programme, clubgolf, this year to encourage children and their families to play golf, is holding an Open Day for juniors this Sunday (30 March) between 11am and 4pm.

Recognising an absence of facilities in the area, the Club, near Drymen, has developed a six-hole course, which it plans to increase to nine, and a dedicated short-game area.

Ireland and Scotland win opening matches at Four Nations Development Matches at Royal Dublin Golf Club

Host nation Ireland beat the Netherlands by the margin of 7-5 at the Four Nation Golf Development Matches held at Royal Dublin Golf Club.

The players rallied after trailing the morning foursomes 3-1 to win the singles matches by 6-2. Graham Donohue won both his matches.

In the other match Scotland comprehensively beat Wales by the margin of 7 1/2 to 4 1/2.

Ireland play Wales tomorrow and Scotland are up against the Netherlands.

Ferreira and Rottanburg lead after Day 2 of Ernie Els World Junior Invitational

The first-round delays at the inaugural Ernie Els World Junior Invitational being played at The Links at Fancourt have meant that the second round has not yet been completed at the end of day two.

However, after an excellent one-under par 72, Killarney Golf Club’s Matthew Rottanburg is joint clubhouse leader with Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation member Wehmeyer Ferreira, both on two-over par after 36 holes.
