Scotland Boys Golf Team beat North of England U-16’s 8-7 after impressive fightback

Scotland’s U16’s beat the North of England 8 – 7 last night in an impressive fight back after finding themselves 3-2 down in the morning foursomes at Northumberland Golf Club

In the annual clash, the young Scots were trailing 7 – 3 in the afternoon singles clashes, with five matches still out on the course before defiant wins from Colin Baird, Tom Blennerhasset and William Russell helped to remedy the situation. Chris Robb and Daniel Young were left to battle to battle it out on the moorland course in the final critical matches of the day.

Brendan Scott and Murrayfield rising star Gillian Simpson Earn Masters Wins

Host club youngster Brendan Scott and Murrayfield rising star Gillian Simpson took the honours in the East Regional Final of the Dunfermline Building Society Junior Masters at Dunfermline GC yesterday.

 

In the boys section, it was a Dunfermline one-two, with Scott - playing off 22 - coming out on top with 41 points, pipping young club mate Brendan Spriddle by a point. A fine day for Fife was completed with Lochgelly’s Sean Murphy clinching third spot with an equally impressive 40 points.

James Byrne Wins 2007 Scottish Boys Strokplay Championship after a play-off

Mens World Ranked Nos 57 James Byrne from Banchory Golf Club won the 2007 Scottish Boys Championship at Cardrona Golf Club, near Peebles.

Byrne beat Troon’s Michael Stewart at the third play-off hole after both players had tied at -14 284 after the regulation play 72 holes.

 

Behind them, Neil Henderson and Andrew Wallace endured a similar roller coaster ride in their pursuit of the bronze medal before finally finishing level on 4 under and sharing the spoils. Craigie Hill’s Daniel Young claimed the U16 George McDonald Memorial Bowl for the leading U16 player in the event.

James Byrne Takes Commanding Lead Into Final 36 Holes of Scottish Boys Strokeplay Championship

Cardrona Golf Club, Peebles, Scotland

Red hot favourite James Byrne from Banchory Golf Club will enter the final two rounds  of the Scottish Boys Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship with a five-stroke lead at Cardrona, Peebles tomorrow.

Byrne submitted a second-round 69 for a halfway tally of eight-under-par 136.

With  his overnight nearest rivals dropping shots, Byrne opened up a five stroke advantage over Scotland boys’ internationalist Michael Stewart from Troon Welbeck.

Next month, James heads out to Arizona State University for a four-year golf scholarship.
