Golfers Named to go on Grampian Houston Trip

Twelve promising young Scots golfers are looking forward to a “fantastic experience” in Houston. They have been selected to take part in the eighth Grampian-Houston Junior Golf Exchange in October.

The scheme launched in 1992 offers talented young golfers from Grampian and Highland Regions top class coaching in Texas and perhaps the opportunity to win golf scholarship at American universities.

Ian Redford of King James VI Wins Douglas Gillespie Scottish Boys Under-16 Championship

Ian Redford from Perth, Scotland shot rounds of 71, 76 and 75 for a six-over-par total of 222 to win the 2007 Scottish Boys Under-16 Championship.

He won the title by the margin of two shots from Sebastien Riou of France, Billy Downing from Truro and overnight leader David Law from Aberdeen’s Hazlehead club.

Scottish Boys Qualify for 2007 European Boys Team Championship Top Flight Matchplay Stages

Scotland qualified in seventh place for the top flight matchplay stages of the 2007 European Boys Team Championship at Rold Skov Golf Club, Denmark.

World Mens Ranked  nos 44 James Byrne of Banchory, Scotland (+4 handicap) who scored 69 today is pictured below.

Scotland play No 2 seeds Italy tomorrow in the quarter-finals.

English Boys Under-16 Championship Latest

Eight young Scots will head for Southport & Ainsdale to contest the English Boys U16 Championship, also known as the McGregor Trophy which gets underway next week (4 -6 July).

Two three man teams representing Scottish hopes will contest the Nations Cup, whilst Inchmarlo’s Chris Robb and William Russell – the current and youngest champion The Duke’s Men’s Club Championship has ever boasted – will compete alongside the six other Scots in the individual title race for the McGregor Trophy.

Scotland scored a 6-3 victory over Ireland in the annual Youths International match which was played at the West Waterford Golf Club.

Scottish Golf Union Junior Tour Win for Henderson

NEIL HENDERSON WINS SGU JUNIOR TOUR EVENT OF SEASON AT THE GLEN GOLF CLUB
Neil Henderson (Glen Golf Club) continued his fine run of form by winning the fifth and final event of the Scottish Golf Union Junior Tour.

Henderson had already performed with distinction at the Lothians boys’ championship, the Scottish Boys’ Area Team Championship and the Scottish Schools Championships at Gullane.

He already won a Junior Tour event most recently at Kilmarnock Barassie Golf Links (see picture below)
