5 English Golfers qualify as Leona Maguire heads the qualifiers at 2010 French Lady Junior Golf Championship

Five English lady golfers, led by EWGA womens golf champion Charlie Douglass, have qualified for the matchplay stages of the 2010 French Lady Junior Golf Championship at St Cloud, France.

The top 32 players went through to the knockout after 36 holes of strokeplay qualifying. Charlie qualified in fifth place and is joined by Hayley Davis (8th), Heidi Baek (13th), Alex Peters (17th) and Holly Clyburn (22nd).

In the first round of matchplay Charlie Douglass (Brocket Hall) will play Lara Katzy (Germany); Hayley Davis (Ferndown) plays Mireia Prat (Spain), Heidi Baek (Felixstowe Ferry) is drawn against Lea Charpier (France), Alex Peters (Notts Ladies’) takes on Elisabeth Haavardsholm (Norway); Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa) plays Louise Ridderstrom (Sweden).

The top seed is defending champion Leona Maguire of Ireland, who finished on level par, 142, after36 holes and now plays Kelsey Macdonald of Scotland.
MacDonald, was one of seven lady golfers who tied on the cut-off mark of +8, 152. and who played-off for the remaining four places.

England’s Hannah Barwood (Knowle) missed out on the play-off by one shot.

Leona Maguire partnered her twin sister, Lisa Maguire, to win the Vilmorin Cup, which was contested by 16 national teams over the qualifying rounds. The French Ladies Golf Team were runners-up and the EWGA Team I were third, represented by Hannah Barwood, Holly Clyburn and Charlie Douglass.
