56th Florida State Boys Junior Golf Championship Scores from Grand Cypress Golf Club

Justin Stills fired an even par 72 in the second round to the lead by two strokes in the 56th Florida State Boys Junior Championship as Jimmy Stanger shot a 69-68 to lead by five in the 13-15 age division heading into the final round at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando. The Championship continues through Thursday, July 8.
After 36 holes, Justin Stills, of Pensacola, holds a two stroke advantage recording a two-round total of five-under par 139. In the first round, Stills fired a three-under par 33 on the front nine, and finished strong on the back nine carding a two-under par 34 for a five-under par 67 to share the lead heading into the second round. Stills took sole possession of the lead with a second round even par 72 on the North/South course to lead by two strokes. Collin Engelhardt, of Orlando, Joey Petronio, of Orlando, and Drew Guffey, of Bartow are all tied for second place with a two round total of three-under par 141. Fifty-two juniors in the 16-18 age division with a two-round total of 152 and better have advanced to the final round.
In the 13-15 age division, Jimmy Stanger, of Tampa, recorded a second round four-under par 68 on the New course to jump in front by five strokes. After a first round three-under par 69 on the North/South course, Stanger trailed the leader by one. In the second round, Stanger continued his solid play with a one-under par 35 on the front and a three-under par 33 on the back nine to secure the lead heading into the final round. Jimmy Pitenis, of Daytona Beach, and Ryan Stovash, of Orlando, are currently tied for second place after posting a two round total of two-under par 142. Defending Champion, Evan Byrd, of Ocala, is currently in eighth place with a two round total of 147. Twenty-one juniors in the 13-15 age division advanced to the final day shooting a two-round total of 152 and better.
More than 370 entries were filed for the 2010 Championship. Competitors first attempted to qualify for the Championship at one of six sites across the state in 18 holes of stroke play. The Championship field features 126 of the top male amateur golfers in the 16-18 age division and 42 top juniors in the 13-15 age division. In the Championship, competitors will play 18 holes on the (North/South) course and the (New) course with the final 18 holes at Grand Cypress Golf Club (North/South) course.
To enter, participants must be between the ages of 13-18 as of July 8 and not attending college. Also, the juniors must have a handicap index no higher than 17.4.
