Celebrations were ongoing after a vision impaired member of the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership achieved a hole-in-one at the Balbirnie Park Golf Club in Fife.

Peter Osborne (46), from Carnforth and a member of the recent Team Scotland squad which narrowly lost out to England in the Auld Enemies Ryder Cup match sank the ace at the 14th par-3 hole.

Peter said, "I've never done that before and the strange thing was, that not only couldn't I see the result, but neither could our group of golfers, as the green was elevated and the ball simply disappeared over the edge of the hill.  When we got up there, John and the rest of our group looked around the green and found nothing, so it was a few minutes before we all realised that it was in the cup".

John Murray, Peter's sighted guide and also a member of the Balbirnie Park Club, said "I've only been guiding the blind and vision impaired players for a few years and I couldn't be more pleased for Peter.  What a great experience.  Although the ground was very wet under-foot, the course was bathed all day in glorious sunshine and we also enjoyed the wee nip of malt that Peter produced at the 19th!"

The match itself was another in the series of Challenge Cup matches between the SDGP and golf club members and over twenty golfers participated.  The Cup was eventually won by Balbirnie members by 4-2 and the Cup will remain on display at the club.

Individually, prizes were awarded to the following SDGP members.  1st - Stevie Cunningham 37 points, 2nd - Peter Osborne 35 points including the hole in one at the par 3 14th hole.  3rd - Derek Milne 32 points

Individual Balbirnie members were awarded prizes as follows - 1st - Hugh Bowie 39 points, 2nd -David Gray 38 points and 3rd - Ian Clark 35 points.

The winning team was team 3 - Stevie Cunningham, Norrie Ross and Bill Scott

As part of the day a charitable donation was made by the SDGP to the John Fergus School in
Glenrothes
