Bellshill Golf Club invites Scottish Disability Golf Partnership (SDGP) members and coaches to play for new trophy
Tuesday, 21 July 2009
The Captain and Council of Bellshill Golf Club have invited disabled members and their coaches from the SDGP, to play at the club on Thursday 6 August at 10:00, to participate for their new "Challenge Trophy".
The match will see members of the club mixed with SDGP members, playing a stableford format fun competition.
Jim Gales of the SDGP said, "We have encountered many new health conditions and mobility problems and want to encourage anyone to come and have a go as such problems should not be a barrier to playing golf. Matches such as this one at Bellshill demonstrate to other golfers and the public that even though we all have bits that don't work properly, we can still play golf".
The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership is the only group in Scotland which actively encourages and involves anyone of any age, with a disability, serious health problem or mobility issue and their coaches, who wish to play golf and includes amputees, the blind, deaf, those with learning difficulties, downs syndrome, stroke and heart attack victims, wheelchair users and anyone with other similar issues, who wish to learn or play the sport.
The SDGP has evolved rapidly in recent years and provides golf training and competition for many hundreds of people and is this year targeting youngsters and junior members in an attempt to introduce them to the game.

Correction, SDGP are not the only group in Scotland actively encouraging disabled golfers, we've been doing it for over 27 years. The Scottish Blind Golf Society.
Well well well.It appears that Robin Clayden has found another way to post comments about the SDGP.Now how can I put this......CHANGE THE RECORD & GET A LIFE!!!!!The SDGP ARE the ONLY group catering for people with ALL TYPES OF DISABILITIES not just the blind & visually impared. But please feel free to prove me wrong & tell everyone how many sighted amputees you have as members or how many sighted downs syndrome members you have.I am VERY confident that the answer will be none.DO YOU GET THE MESSAGE.........
