Bit More About Todays Golfer of the Moment - Richie Ramsay, 2009 South African Open Golf Champion

Bookmark and Share
There is bound to be a great deal of interest in Aberdonian Richie Ramsay since he won the 2009 South African Open Golf Championship at Pearl Valley Estates, Paarl, South Africa at the weekend.

In expectation that, the former Walker Cup player, R&A WAGR #1 and 2006 U.S Amateur Champion would receive a lot of attention on the net, I uploaded a You Tube Golf Video of Richie in golf swing action plus I did a feature on 'What's in the Bag of Richie Ramsay?', with links below.

True to form, we have been receiving searches from all over the world, covering the rules dispute in Wales, his amateur career, his golf equipment, golf swing and the list goes on.

Like every first time European Tour winner, this generates a great deal of interest and Richie will be more of a household name than before.

Well deservedly so, as this guy has a great work ethic, focusses on all aspects of his golf game and fitness, and has great determination to succeed. Whereas others, with perhaps more talent fall by the wayside or do not reach their full potential.

The lack of succes of other Scottish Golfers, may be because golfers are not focussed, motivated and are too lethargic in their approach to what is a 'professional' sport job. These golfers need to grow a set of huevos, wake up smell the coffee and realise tour golf is not a socialising popularity contest with mobile phone text overdrive or taking time to look the part, when Richie is up to his rear end in bunker sand. Hopefully, the success of Richie will encourage these prima donas to get their act together and have more of a burning desire and hunger to succeed. Callum Macaulay , David Drysdale and Peter Whiteford are three Scottish Golfers with such a switched-on 'mindset' and may still break through into the winner's enclosure.

What are the obvious dangers for Richie? Well, you just have to look at the Tiger Woods scenario lately to see what can happen, contrary to the touring golf professionals bull**** motto of 'What goes on tour, stays on tour".

Other Scottish prima dona golfers may think life on tour is a Scottish Bevvy Merchant 'jolly', ungratefully take the urine at other people's expense and see this a great opportunity to travel and 'pull' women, whereas Richie is far too sensible. He possesses far too much tunnel visioned and in a cocoon under the unmbrella of IMG - in the same vein as players such as British Open Champions Paul Lawrie and Nick Faldo, so not expect any train wrecks to happen.

His preparation and performance after a late call-up to last year's Dunhill Links Golf Championship at St Andrews illustrates such guts and determination. I viewed Richie several days before the event kcked off, working hard on his all-round game (and in particular, short game) in the lead up to this event. He deserved the high finish which secured his 2010 European Tour card.

Richie is not flawless and has had a very bad reputation dating back to his young amateur days when we were wondering if he was a javelin thower or aspiring golfer. He also acquired a reputation as being one of the most selfish players on tour due to his 'watching paint dry' snail pace approach to golf. The Scotsman will have learned from mistakes, we all make when younger - he is like a 'sponge' and continues to work even harder to reach the top in the game of golf and has the mental toughness to do so.

Forgot to mention, we did have searches for "Richie Ramsay's girlfriend" - Richie has his head screwed on right and will be well aware of the tour groupies and hanger-ons! We wish him all the very best and look forward to reporting on further success.
