Cupar Golf Club welcomes disabled golfers
Monday, 6 July 2009
The latest Scottish Disability Golf match for the Order of Merit title race was held at Cupar Golf Club on Sunday 5 July, where players and their coaches from around the country accepted an invitation from the Captain and Council to once again play this challenging course.
Members, who travelled from places including Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Fife and Perthshire, took on the hilly but superbly manicured course, after a rain delayed start.
One of the new SDGP members said, "The course was in great condition and the greens were in excellent order, even after the recent heat and lack of rain. The rain that we encountered didn't last too long and it gave us the chance to enjoy the warm clubhouse welcome from the members and staff. A great day all round".
As they reach the halfway point in the Scottish Disability Golf Partnerships 2009 season. There were a handful of new members playing and included those with health conditions like learning disabilities, the blind, amputees, the deaf, and others with serious health problems.
Results from Cupar, which was sponsord by the Cupar Golf Club and the Bruce Trust.
1st SDGP player with 43 points was Bob Drysdale of Tayport
2nd SDGP player with 40 points was Steve Bramwell of Johnstone
1st SDGP Coach with 29 points was Kevin McKay of Edinburgh
2nd SDGP Coach with 25 Points was Paul Shepherd of Tayport.
The overall winning team consisted of Paul Shepherd and Bob Drysdale of Tayport and Jim Gales, from Springfield.

We've been looking after blind and visually impaired golfers for over 27 years. This bunch of cowboys claim to be the only group in Scotland actively offering golf to disabled people.... blatant lies yet again from them...
And I doubt if the moderator will have the guts to allow this comment to be pposted. Never mind, complaints are being lodged to the right places.
The conduct of ROBIN CLAYDEN is quite alarming. Within the Scottish Blind Golf Code of Conduct and Constituition it states, "The objectives of the Society are to further the physical and mental health of all registered blind or partially sighted persons in Scotland to ameliorate their suffering and distress and to aid them in their handicaps, specifically by promoting and encouraging their participation in, and the playing of, the game of golf."
A verbal attack calling a fellow-registered charity who run very worthwhile golf events as being "COWBOYS" and questioning the integrity of an independent Scottish Website who promotes and supplies prizes to various charities is outrageous.
Jim Gales at SDGP has the dignity not to respond to such a personalised onslaught and we will not be publishing any further derogatory remarks from this character. I have forwarded this response to enable the Secretary of the Scottish Blind Golf Organisation to register a complaint for discussion by the full committee at the next meeting and asking him to make no further contact.
I was considering giving prizes similar to what I do for the SDGP Golf Charity, but is now off the agenda such to the uncalled for conduct of ROBIN CLAYDEN.
I am the Vice Chairman of the SDGP. We are the only group in Scotland providing what we do for ALL disabilities, and those with other serious health issues, in Scotland. Thank you kindly Mr Editor for your defence of our position. We really appreciate it.
I am a new member of the SDGP who is registered blind & was welcomed with open arms.More than can be said for the SBGS.I enquired about membership with them 3 times & was told every time that I would be unable to do so unless I could provide my own guide/coach.Something which most people cannot commit the time to.I have had no such problem since joining the SDGP as they are helpful enough to provide a sighted player to accompany me throughout my round.Having just read the petty & childish comments from the so called secratary of the SBGS it seems to me that they have done me a favour. There is no way I would wish to be part of or associated with an organisation with a commity member who thinks it is acceptable to slate another organisation like a PETULANT CHILD!!!!How old is Robin Clayden? My best guess would be about 11 or 12.
I would suggest that the other members of the SBGS commity should have the guts to remove such a person from their club altogether.Such a person can only do damage to the reputation of the SBGS.
How dare he even make such comments about our club!!!
Someone pick his toys up & put them back into the pram for him.Jealuosy is a cruel mistress Robin.Your opinion is unwelcome as far as I am concerned.Just you stick to saving Gotham City with Batman.....
