Team Scotland, which travelled to Slaley Hall last weekend to play against England for the Pan-Disabled Auld Enemies Cup, was edged out of victory on the last day of competition.

The event with a Ryder Cup format was generated by the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership at the Priestman Golf Course at Slaley Hall and began, last Friday with a foursome's format, followed by the traditional fourball and concluded with singles competition.

Team Scotland's Captain, Jim Gales said, "It was tight all the way with England just ahead after day one with a 3.5 to 2.5 lead.  This in effect, was the crunch score after a 3-3 score line on day two and a 6-6 singles share of the points on day three.  Thankfully, we met a lot of new golfers and old friends at the event and the friendship and banter was very good, as both teams had to battle against the continually changeable weather, from cold sunny conditions to strong winds and rain".

The event received a lot of recognition and endorsements, including complimentary messages from Gary Player, Alex Salmond MSP - Scotland's First Minister, Dougie Donnelly, Kirsty Wark, Ally McCoist and Hazel Irvine.

Team Scotland's Vice Captain Stevie Cunningham, said, "We are already making plans for next year's event, where we hope to wrestle the Cup back from the English.  We must however, make special mention of some of our Team's supporters, like Under Armour, who provided waterproof jackets for the team, Mirror Tees of the USA and Burtee of Canada, whose support gave us a huge boost".

Local support also came from the Northumberland Golf Union's Referees, including Stan Peat and Paul Clarke, who assisted the teams with Refereeing back up, Starter's duties and golf handicap calculation.

The SDGP would also like to thank all the coaches, guides and helpers, who spotted out on the course and looked after all the players so well and took on a large proportion of the background work for the event.

The SDGP now moves on to two central Scotland events at the Balbirnie and Tulliallan Golf Courses.

The Tulliallan match will be the SDGP's final 2011 game and the presentation of the year's trophies and prizes.
