Welsh Internationalist Oliver Farr and Essex Golfer Mathew Soutgate lead after the 1st round of the 2009 Welsh Men's Open Amateur Strokeplay Golf Championship at Ashburnham Golf Club, South Wales with scores of three-under-par 69.


In T3 place are Ben Westgate (2008 Welsh Mens Amateur Golf Champion, 208 Golf Union of Wales Mens Order of Merit winner, Winner of 2009 Duncan Putter and the Trubshaw Cup & Runner-Up at The Lytham Trophy 2009), former Welsh Boys Golf Champion Adam Runcie, the lesser-known pair of Thomas Coulson and Richard Smith of England and English Mens Amateur Golf Internationalist Luke Goddard, who is part of the 2009 Walker Cup Squad.

Adrian Ford of South Africa, who won the Freddie Tait Trophy as the leading amateur in the 2008 South African Open Championship, is currently ranked 3rd on the latest SAGA Player Rankings is on -1, 71 alongside English Mens Internationalist Charlie Ford.
