Ireland's Rory McIlroy has risen two places to 7th position in the latest Official World Golf Ranking.

This is the highest position the 20 year-old has reached in his short professional golf career to date.

The Ulsterman, who put up a great defence of his European Tour Dubai Desert Classic event at the weekend, has been the model of consistency and has amassed an average of 5.15 points per event.  If he continues in the same rich vein of form, a top-5 placing is very much on the horizon.
