With just two weeks remaining until the first qualifying event, competitors have learned that the successful team in this year’s sixth annual Banks and Brokers Golf Championship – sponsored by IG Markets – will win a break to the stunning Lough Erne Resort, in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
A further boost for the popular financial services sector event came with the news that Argentine holiday specialist Tango Tours – an ATOL-bonded tour operator – has become an official partner.
Aled Rees, managing director of Tango Tours, said: “This is an exciting time for us at Tango Tours and our Argentina Golf Tours. Over the past few years we have had fantastic feedback regarding Argentina as a golfing destination and have been looking for an opportunity to take our project to the next level. The chance to be in partnership with the Banks and Brokers Golf Championship is one we are very much looking forward to.”
Closer to home, Lough Erne was the first AA and Northern Ireland Tourist Board five-star hotel in Northern Ireland, and was awarded the title of ‘best hotel’ at the 2011 Northern Ireland Tourism Awards as well as being named ‘golf resort of the year’ by the Irish Golf Tour Operators Association in 2010.
It is a stunning venue and one which will make a memorable prize for those lucky enough to win it according to the Banks and Brokers Golf Championship organiser, Jim Nicholson.
He said: “Partnering with the magnificent Lough Erne Resort means we are able to offer some outstanding additional benefits for our winners, in addition to the expenses-paid trip to Spain for the grand final. It adds to the kudos of what is already a very prestigious golf championship.”
The overall winning team will receive a short break for four at Lough Erne, which includes a night’s B&B in a luxury two-bedroom Loughside Lodge suite; use of the infinity pool and thermal suite at the Thai Spa; and two rounds of golf per person on the outstanding Faldo Championship course.
A few team places are still available for the qualifiers at East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa on July 1, and at Brocket Hall, on August 15, where a maximum of 18 teams of four at each venue will battle for the right to jet off to Antequera Golf, near Malaga, during October, for a two-day final.
Unlike similar events where only the winning teams make it to the final, in the Banks and Brokers Golf Championship the winning team and the runners-up from both regional events qualify for the final in Spain, where the four sides will battle for the fantastic Irish break.
Companies registered to take part already include ICAP; Tradition UK, MF Global; Martin Brokers; BGC Partners; Barclays Capital; HSBC and Rabobank.
With a one-in-nine chance of being on the plane for the complimentary grand final – and with a number of other fantastic prizes on offer – tournament organisers believe this year’s event will be the best yet. Some teams even entered both events to increase their chances of success.
Those lucky enough to win through to the Spanish final on October 16-17 will enjoy free flights and transfers; two rounds of golf; five-star accommodation at the impressive Hotel La Magdelena, a former convent; tapas lunches on both days and a three-course gala dinner.
The event also helps to raise funds for STAR4Africa, a UK-based charity dedicated to providing opportunities and support for children in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Banks and Brokers Golf Championship is open to all companies and individuals but is aimed primarily at corporations, individuals and other bodies operating in and around the financial services sector.
