Six representatives from Scottish Disability Golf, set off for the Queen's Garden Party yesterday in glorious sunshine.  The invitation, generated through the kind support of the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, Margaret Dean, was extended to Jim and Janet Gales, of Springfield, William and Irene McEwen of Glenrothes  (pictured) and Bill and Isabel Dickman of Kinghorn, to attend the Party, which was hosted by the Queen and Prince Philip and several other Royal Family members.

"We had a great day at the Palace and I have never had such an invitation before, so was very excited about attending and seeing the Queen.  Everyone made us very welcome and I felt like a princess for the day", said Isabel Dickman.

The gates to the Palace of Holyroodhouse were opened at 15:00, but many of those attending began the day with Champagne and picnics, before going into the Palace grounds.  After the regular security checks, the staff gave everyone a warm welcome and two military bands provided entertainment, before the Queen and the royal Family circulated around the crowd and spoke for some time with the invitees
and some of the armed services personnel who had been awarded their Afghanistan medals and honours earlier that day.  The day concluded with a buffet tea and more entertainment.

Jim Gales, Chairman of the SDGP said, "The SDGP has had a long association with The Lord Lieutenant of Fife Margaret Dean and a previous Depute Lord Lieutenant, John Lindsay-Bethune, who both recently attended our seasons prize presentation at Balbirnie Golf Club, and to receive such an invitation was a great honour and boost to our charity and its continuing work with disabled people throughout Scotland.  We all had a great day at the Palace and met some very interesting people".

The SDGP has several new golf events coming up, which includes a free training day at Mearnes Castle and several new golf competitions at Bonnyton, East Renfrewshire, GlenBervie and Newmachar Golf Clubs.  More information can be found on all these events at www.sdgp.co.uk.
