England retained the European Nations Cup with a dazzling display of golf over four days at Sotogrande in southern Spain.

The four-man team of Matt Haines, Tom Lewis, Chris Paisley and Tommy Fleetwood, who capped a personal triumph with a hole-in-one, finished on 830, 34 under par, 23 strokes ahead of runners-up Italy and 27 clear of Denmark in third place.

With the best three scores to count on each day, the England quartet led from start to finish and such was their supremacy over the other 17 competing teams that their overall score was ten shots better than their winning mark last year.

The only missing element was the individual prize which Sam Hutsby won last year.
