Renfrewshire disabled golfers and their coaches have made a strong start to the 2010 golf season, and are within striking distance in the GolfbloggerUK Scottish Order of Merit Tables.

Steve Bramwell of Johnstone (This years Nations Cup captain) is lying in 3rd place at the moment.  "There have been some tricky courses played like the Carrick Loch Lommond and the Dukes Course St Andrews" said Steve.

"Every member of the SDGP is trying to get into the Scottish team for next years Nations cup."  The Order of Merit is made up of the top six scores from each members games.  There are at least 18 matches planned this year with more in the pipeline.

Other local players aiming for top spot on the tables are, Jim Davidson of Johnstone , John McCue of Renfrew and Stuart Tallach of Erskine.

Renfrews SDGP golfing coaches are also making their presence felt with Stuart Copland of Johnstone leading the way, Rob Steele of Glasgow and Alan Bruce of Johnstone all have strong places on their own.

Steve Bramwell, the SDGP Secretary said, "In 2011, the SDGP will for the first time, have the opportunity to host the Nations Cup, which will be the biggest disabled team golf event in the world.  Four teams of twelve golfers each, plus their coaches and guides, will compete over four days for the title of World Team Champions.  The Westerwood Hotel & Golf Resort at Cumbernauld will host the event in July 2011, where teams from Scotland, England and Wales will take on a team consisting of disabled golfers from around the world.  The teams will be made up of golfers with varying disabilities, including amputees, cerebral palsy, the blind and numerous other health conditions"

Meanwhile, the members of the SDGP will next travel to the Isle of Arran for a two day competition over the Machrie Bay and Lamlash Golf Courses, shortly followed by trips to Alloa and Niddry Castle.
