Members of the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership are practising hard for the upcoming golfing year.  They will tee-off their new season with games at the Dukes Golf Course in St Andrews, Swanston in Edinburgh and a training day at Wellsgreen, near Kirkcaldy.  They have also justannounced their newly elected Honorary Captain and Honorary vice Captain for the coming year.

Fiona McKellan, the Event Manager at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld, has kindly agreed to represent the SDGP as Honorary Captain for 2011.  Fiona has been helping to organise disabled golf events at Westerwood for almost ten years and said, "It's always good to meet up with the guys from the SDGP again and we hope that when they visit us for their Scottish Championship and World Cup in July, we can assist in promoting disabled golf more."

The Honorary vice Captain for 2011 is Gavin Fisher, who with his wife Sharon, run the www.buyit4golf.com. company in Aberdeen.  They have sponsored the SDGP on several occasions and Gavin attended the 2010 Scottish Open Championship and provided a perpetual team trophy for the Cel-am competition.  Gavin said, "Both my son Adam and I are very keen golfers and it's always a bit of a shock to realise how good these guys are at the game.  I certainly hope to get to more games this year."

The first SDGP match will be at the Dukes Golf Course, where they will host the 2011 Charities Cup, where ten teams will compete for the coveted trophy sponsored and hosted by Scottish Disability Golf.  This match, which has previously been won by the Guide Dogs for the Blind and VONEF Cupar, will see golfers travel from around Scotland and see able bodied and disabled golfers participate equally.

Anyone with a disability or serious health problem and their coaches, guides or carers, can become members and participate in SDGP competitions or training.  In 2010, the SDGP organised some half dozen free training and tuition days and over two dozen domestic events for beginners, novices and established players.  Further information about all the SDGP's events, can be found at www.sdgp.co.uk. or by email at info@sdgp.co.uk.
