Scottish Golf News - SDGP enjoy stableford competition visit to Elmwood

The Captain and members of Elmwood Golf Club invited disabled members and their coaches from the SDGP, to play at the club on Saturday 26 September, to participate for the second year of the Elmwood Challenge Trophy.

The match saw members of the club mixed with SDGP members, playing a stableford format competition. This was also the penultimate match in the Scottish Order of Merit Championship which will conclude at the SDGP’s next match at Kinross Golf Club. The annual presentation of prizes for the SDGP will follow shortly thereafter at the Balbirnie Golf Club on 5 October, which will also incorporate a Coaches Championship.

Prize winners at Elmwood were;

1st Player John McCue from Renfrew with 36 points
2nd Player Fraser Paterson from Edinburgh with 35 points
1st Place coaches John Murray from Glenrothes with 40 points
2nd Alan Bruce from Johnstone with 36 points

Team match and the trophy were won by Stevie Cunningham of Newton, John Murray of Glenrothes and David Hutton of Elmwood Golf Society, with 73 points.

Steve Bramwell secretary of the SDGP said “We had a perfect day for golf, the course was in great condition and was a credit to the green keepers members and captain of Elmwood”

The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership is the only group in Scotland which actively encourages and involves anyone of any age, with a disability, serious health problem or mobility issue and their coaches, who wish to play golf and includes amputees, the blind, deaf, those with learning difficulties, downs syndrome, stroke and heart attack victims, wheelchair users and anyone with other similar issues, who wish to learn or play the sport.

The SDGP has evolved rapidly in recent years and provides golf training and competition for many hundreds of people and is this year targeting youngsters and junior members in an attempt to introduce them to the game.
