Spherical Blade Putters Launch in USA
Friday, 22 May 2009
Spherical Blade, one of Europe’s fastest-growing putter companies, has now launched its innovative and acclaimed range of ‘curved face’ S-Blade putters in the USA.
Every S-Blade putter is designed with gentle convex curves on its face to deliver a perfect roll - by imparting increased top-spin and preventing the 'bobbling' effect so often seen after the putter strikes the ball – and are available from the new company Spherical Blade USA.
Ian Smith, managing director of Spherical Blade UK, met several agents and distributors who were impressed by the curved face technology in the S-Blade putter range at the PGA Merchandise Show earlier this year.
The stunning and distinctive wooden ‘Tortoiseshell’ and ‘Admiral’ models also generated a huge amount of interest and the reaction to the S-Blade brand was so strong that the company decided to set up a full-scale USA operation, headed by Matt Phillips and Patrick Connelly.
Said Ian: “We are extremely excited to be launching in the USA with a dedicated company.
“We had the option of using agents and distributors but decided that the best way ahead was for Spherical Blade USA to be solely responsible for sales and marketing of the S-Blade putter collection in America.”
Designed with subtle north-south and east-west curves on the putter face, the revolutionary S-Blade technology helps the golfer achieve a much smoother roll on their putts and also makes the S-Blade putter much more forgiving than other makes and models.
Last year, extensive laboratory testing at the renowned Quintic Consultancy confirmed that S-Blade’s 'curved face' technology imparts more topspin on a golf ball than some of the most well-known and established putter brands on the market.
Independent Biomechanical Analysis was performed on nine putters - the S-Blade Emperor, Silver Swallowtail and Arrowhead - and six other putters from some of the biggest names in golf.
The S-Blade Emperor and S-Blade Arrowhead were among the four best overall performers on test, ahead of a well-known brand with more than 50 years of putter-making history, plus one of the world's biggest-selling putter models of the last eight years.
Added Ian Smith: “The test proved that our spherical face technology gets the ball rolling with topspin more effectively than most – graphically illustrated by the fact that the Emperor generated the most early roll of all and no backspin at all.
"The technology clearly works and has been proven to help golfers to hole more putts.”
Using a putting robot arm, the Quintic Consultancy study examined the effect that Spherical Blade putters have on the roll and skid performance of a golf ball during the first part of a twenty-foot straight putt and compared it with the others.
Video analysis at 250 frames per second (fps) was used to record ball rotation, distance travelled, club-head and ball velocities during the initial stages of putts. On average, eight frames were digitised prior to impact and a further 15 frames after impact and the amount of forward rotation was recorded in degrees.
In the test, only the S-Blade Emperor got the ball rolling with topspin immediately on impact (frame zero) and was the putter that gave the most roll in the first seven frames.
From frame one, the S-Blade Arrowhead, along with two other putters, got the ball rolling and from frame two, so did the S-Blade Swallowtail.
All the other models initially suffered from 'backspin' at impact and two of the big name brands were still backspinning (i.e. skidding) by frames six and seven, while two more were still failing to roll with topspin almost two thirds of the way through the test.
