From an initial field of 60,000 golfers, just over 100 remain and will compete in the World Final of the prestigious MercedesTrophy – the amateur golf tournament organised by Mercedes-Benz for its customers since 1989, that starts on October 1st.

The world’s best amateur golfers from over 60 countries will gather in Stuttgart, where they will compete for glory at the Stuttgarter Golf-Club Solitude and the Golfanlage Schloss Nippenburg. At the end of the tournament, honours will be awarded to the best national team as well as the best player.

This year, a total of 29 national teams, consisting of three players each, will be competing for the coveted cup. Defending champions will be the team from the UK, which last year pipped China and South Korea to the title.

“Fascination and perfection are the values that our vehicles have embodied for the last 125 years, values which the sport of golf also embodies like no other. We are pleased to offer our customers the opportunity to also experience these values as part of the MercedesTrophy World Final“, said Lüder Fromm, Director of Global Marketing Communications for Mercedes-Benz Cars.

He continues; “As a special highlight at the tournament, we will be showing the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster, which just celebrated its world premiere at the IAA, as well as the ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC, the most fuel-efficient SUV in its class.”

In addition to the three tournament rounds, the participants will also compete for two special prizes. On the first day of the tournament, there will be a nearest-to-the-pin competition. At the hole, Mercedes-Benz will be collecting donations for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. As one of its founding members, Mercedes-Benz is an especially strong supporter of the foundation – donating not only funds raised at the MercedesTrophy World Final, but also donations collected at the Mercedes Trophy qualification tournaments around the world.

The “Drive to the Major” contest, on the tournament’s second day, will give participants a chance to win an incredible golfing experience.

Winners of the straightest drive competition will receive a trip to The Open Championship and a slot in the qualification tournament for the “Monday After Event” – a chance to play the actual course on the day after the Championship finishes. The winners will also be able to follow the tournament from the Mercedes-Benz VIP area. As the official automobile partner of the world’s oldest golf tournament, Mercedes-Benz is giving one of its customers the chance to play a round on one of the world’s most historic courses.

In addition to the tournament itself, the finalists will also have the opportunity for a Driving Experience with current Mercedes-Benz models, such as the SLK 350 or the CL 500 as well as a guided tour of the state of the art Mercedes Museum.
