After an exciting build-up, the 2010 HANDA Women’s Australian Open gets underway at Commonwealth Golf Club today boasting an outstanding field and on-course activities for young and old.

Leading a stellar player list are three of the World’s Top 10 including Taiwanese World Number 6 Yani Tseng, Swedish World Number 7 Anna Nordqvist and Australian World Number 8 Karrie Webb – aiming for wins in consecutive weeks following her success in Queensland.

Swedish World Number 19 Sophie Gustafson joins World Number 25 Katherine Hull (AUS) and World Number 28 Lindsey Wright (AUS), sparkling American Christina Kim and defending champion Laura Davies- a winner of 73 titles worldwide.

Hot on the heels of the professionals in the field are a group outstanding amateurs including World No 1 Amateur American Alexis Thompson who plays her first HANDA Women’s Australian Open at just 15 years of age on her first overseas trip.

As the players show their skills on the course, adults and children will be able practice their putting on the PlayGolf.com.au. and Drummond Golf Putting and Junior Zone.

With fitness a key aspect of every elite golfer’s performance, WorkSafe are offering free health checks to fans in the Main Village. These checks are completely confidential.

Fans should also keep an eye on the Fiona Pike Skin Cancer Awareness marquee in the Main Village for autograph opportunities with star players.
