The Auld Enemy are victorious at Celtic Manor Resort in Nations Cup 2010 golf competition

A brand new Nations Cup competition took place earlier this week at  Celtic Manor Resort in Wales, where teams from Scotland, England, Wales and Europe fought it out for the coveted title of Nations Cup Champions.

Steve Bramwell, the Scottish Captain, said, "It is a great honour to lead  your country at any time, but to be able to play in a brand new event, at a  great venue and to try out the place before the Ryder Cup match later this  year was quite special.  Unfortunately, the English team pipped Scotland tothe title after the hard fought match play competition, with Wales and the Euro teams left trailing.  Team Scotland, besides winning three of their  four initial tussles, lay in fourth spot after day one, but rallied to finish a very creditable runner up and losing only by a very small margin. I was immensely proud to lead the team to Wales and I think we gave a very  good account of ourselves and the SDGP".

Team Scotland, which was selected from the 2009 SDGP Scottish Order of Merit  Championship and some Captain's wild-card choices, travelled from various parts of Scotland, including Ayrshire, Fife, Edinburgh and Glasgow and the  event is the first ever team international that involves numerousdisabilities, including amputees, those with sensory loss, cerebral palsy,  stroke victims and other serious health conditions.

TEAM SCOTLAND, which was sponsored by, buyit4golf.com, Mirror Tees Ltd and  GolfbloggerUK, consisted of Mark Belcher-Edinburgh, Alisdair Berry-Ayrshire,  Steve Bramwell (Captain)-Johnstone, John Copland-Johnstone, Jim Gales (Vice Captain)-Cupar, Duncan Hamilton-Martin-Weybridge, Scott Kerr-Glasgow and William McEwan-Glenrothes

Several Scottish Golf Clubs are keen to host the 2011 event and we look  forward to "sending them hameward tae think again"!!

The full 2010 golf season will tee-off shortly for the SDGP's disabled  golfers and their coaches where they will play in the first match of the  GolfbloggerUK SDGP Order of Merit championship at an event organised by  Elmwood College on March 26 at Elmwood Golf Course, which will be shortly  followed on the 27th by a trip to the Carrick on Loch Lomond Course and their skills will be tested further, only two days later at the Dukes Golf Course in St Andrews for the Charities Team Cup.

Jim Gales, the SDGP's Chairman said, "Thanks to GolfbloggerUK, which has  nominated the SDGP as its charity of the year and PING, Mirror Tees, Nike,  Ram and Scratch Sunglasses supporting us this year, we have managed to  generate some fantastic golfing opportunities for our members and coaches.

The SDGP have a brand new 2-day Scottish Championship at Machrihanish and a 3-day  Open Championship at Scotscraig Golf Clubs, plus our regular free training days for anyone with a disability or serious health problem, where even if  they haven't played before, they can come along and try it out".
