The Lady Taverners raised more than £20,000 for youngsters with special needs, at its ninth annual celeb-am golf tournament at La Manga Club.

Hosted by the charity’s president and former England women’s cricket captain, Rachael Heyhoe-Flint – who represented Staffordshire in her early golfing days – the event featured a host of famous faces including entertainer and comedian Tom O’Connor, golf commentator Alex Hay and TV and cabaret star Dillie Keane.

The event comprised a team competition on each of the five-star resort’s North, South and West courses. Hay was among the winners as he led a team to victory on the West course with 84 points, while O’Connor’s side took the wooden spoon.

But the highlight of the trip came from Ludlow Golf Club’s 25-handicapper Margaret Harris, who recorded a hole-in-one on the West course’s seventh hole, only two years after taking up the game.

The La Manga Club resort often welcomes famous faces to its fairways as its three championship golf courses are regular settings for celebrity and corporate competitions and the five-star venue has also previously held the Spanish Open.
