The Legends Tour 2011 Handa Cup announce assistant captain selections

U.S. and World Handa Cup Team Captains Kathy Whitworth and Pia Nilsson announced their assistant captain selections for the 2011 Handa Cup.

Two-time Legends Tour champion Lori West will once again assist LPGA Hall of Famer Kathy Whitworth with the five-time-champion U.S. Team. Marta Figueras-Dotti, Spain’s first female professional golfer and a new face at the Handa Cup, has been selected as Vice Captain of the World Team by Captain Pia Nilsson.

Additional confirmations featuring local LPGA Legends have been made for the Handa Cup. Nashua, New Hampshire native, LPGA Hall of Famer and five-time U.S. Team member Pat Bradley will again compete for the Cup. LPGA Hall of Fame member JoAnne Carner, who won two U.S. Women’s amateur titles while living in New England, has also confirmed. Carner has been rock solid for the U.S. in each of the previous five Handa Cups, posting a 7-4-3 win-loss-tie record. Peruvian Alicia Dibos, assistant professional at the acclaimed Winged Foot Country Club in Mamaroneck, New York, has confirmed for the World Team and will be traveling from New York to the Seacoast for her sixth Handa Cup. Dibos has earned a total of 13 points for the World side in past Cup contests.

Tournament week will begin on Thursday, May 19, 2011 with the Official Handa Cup Pro-Am and Opening Ceremony. Practice rounds will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011. First and final rounds of the match play competition will be played Saturday and Sunday May 21-22, 2011. Ticket are $15 per adult per day, or $25 for two days, and are available at www.thelegendstour.com/tickets. Kids 17 and under and all military personnel gain free admission. Tickets are required for Saturday and Sunday’s tournament rounds only. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Handa Cup’s charitable partner, The First Tee of New Hampshire.
