The SDGP 2010 Golf Tour visited Machrihanish Golf Club for the Scottish Championship

The SDGP 2010 Tour set off for the long journey to Machrihanish Golf Club last weekend for their inaugural Scottish Championship.  Thanks to the Club Professional Ken Campbell, they had visited the club last year, for a trial run of the event, although the weather had turned bad and battered the group playing the traditional links course.

Not this time!!  Two days of magnificent weather, with only a little wind, some good company and a great, if sometimes tough, golf course.  Bob Tait the Club Captain and the staff at the clubhouse
made the group most welcome and added to a thoroughly enjoyable time for all.

The Provost of Argyll and Bute kindly provided a Dinner at the Club for all the participants and some fellow Councillors attended the prize presentations, alongside other club officials, adding to the atmosphere of the event.  The SDGP made a donation of a signed team football from Scottish Champions Dundee United, which they can raffle or auction to generate some publicity and funds to help support some of the junior club members.

The sponsors for the 2010 Championship were Machrihanish Golf Club, ProQuip Ltd, Dundee United Football Club, buyit4golf.com and golfbloggerUK

The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership is governed and operated by disabled people and is the only group in Scotland which actively encourages and involves anyone of any age, with a disability, serious health problem or mobility issue and their coaches, who wish to play golf and includes amputees, the blind, deaf, those with learning difficulties, downs syndrome, stroke and heart attack victims, wheelchair users and anyone with other similar issues, who wish to learn or play the sport.

Results from the Scottish Championship were as follows:

1st Derek Milne of Fife with 72 points wins the inaugural SDGP Scottish Cup
2nd Alistair Berry from Ayrshire with 71 points winner of the Kenny McKay Shield
3rd Fraser Patterson from Edinburgh with 66 points winner of the Lynx trophy
4th Bob Drysdale from Tayport 62 points.
Coaches section winner was Stewart Copland of Johnstone with 67 points

The team winners were John Copland, Fraser Patterson, John Taylor and David Brookens with 62 points

The remainder of the competitors and coaches now go for some much needed practise, before the next SDGP competition at Niddry Castle in Edinburgh, which will be followed by a free golf training day at Newton Mearnes and games at Bonnyton and East Renfrewshire.
