The SDGP enjoy Alloa Schawpark Golf Club outing
Saturday, 5 June 2010
The SDGP were on their travels again visiting Alloa Golf Club and below is the latest report from Jim Gales, MBE, the Chairman.

"So, there we were, finally arriving at Alloa Schawpark Golf Club, after the usual set of Scottish roadwork's and futile arguments with the SatNav. Today was the third attempt by the SDGP, to play Alloa after circumstances beat us late last year. Three solid days of rain and even attempts to play from the winter tees and greens beat us into submission.
Today, we were met with superb weather and a warm clubhouse and Pro-shop welcome. This, accompanied by a decent tee shot at the first hole . . . what more could we have asked for? We were joined by
Tom Cavanagh of Sidey Windows for a photo shoot. Sidey were involved as trophy sponsors for the inaugural Scottish Pan-Disability Open Golf Championships, held in 2008 at St Michaels Golf Club.
The main trophy (pictured) remains in Scotland and is currently on display in St Andrews. The other Sidey trophies are scattered about the UK and as far a field as South Africa! The 2010 Open will take place at Scotscraig Golf Club in September.
Back at Alloa, the fantastic views of the Ochil Hills, a tree lined course and the fairways in great condition, only added to the pleasure of the day. Tight drives was a common quote and some very slick greens added several shots to the incoming scores, but Robert Craig of Dunfermline was top of the tree with a steady 36 stableford points and adding his name to the GolfbloggerUK Scottish Orderof Merit Table for the first time.
He was closely followed by Derek Milne, also of Fife, who is currently leading the Table for the disabled players. Another new name on the leader board was Coach, Ian Adam of Lanark, who pipped John Murray of Glenrothes by a point. One stableford score which did receive a prize was from an un-named Coach whose returned score of six stableford points was an SDGP record he will not forget (or be allowed to forget) in a hurry?!
The day was also an opportunity to get some pictures of the travellers from the west of Scotland, in their Towpath Trust minibus. These pictures will be used by the Trust for their new publicity materials and website. The Trust very kindly provides a much used and valued mini bus service to the SDGP.
The SDGP would like to express their appreciation and thanks to everyone at Alloa Golf Club for their superb golf course and hospitality. A venue well worth a visit.
The next event for the SDGP golfers is a trip to Argyll and Bute for a 2-day Scottish Championship at Machrihanish Golf Club, followed shortly thereafter by a game at Niddry Castle near Edinburgh.
Full scores from the day and further information about the SDGP can be found at www.sdgp.co.uk."
