Troon Golf, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce that its Europe, Middle East and Africa managed facilities have proactively organised fund raising activities for the continued relief efforts in Haiti. Following the devastating effects suffered by the people of the Caribbean Island earlier this year, Dubai Sports City staged an event this weekend at The Els Club; Saadiyat Beach Golf Club hosted a Gala dinner earlier this year in Abu Dhabi, organised by TDIC and La Quinta Golf & Country Club in Spain hosted their own gala dinner all in aid of charity organizations integral to the assistance of those suffering in Haiti. Combined, these Troon Golf managed properties have raised nearly 100,000 Euro’s for continuing relief efforts in helping locals recover from the natural disaster.

The Els Club hosted an event on Saturday 27th February, where all proceeds were donated to Red Crescent, UAE to assist in their commitment to working with their international partners to help those suffering in the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti. Invites were sent out to local companies and individuals in the UAE to attend and support efforts made at the Championship course in Dubai. An impressive list of auction prizes were put together by the team at Dubai Sports City, that included a host of signed sporting memorabilia, tickets to much sought after sporting occasions and even a round of golf with former Ryder Cup captain Sam Torrance.

“The event was a huge success and we have made a significant impact on closing in on our 100,000 dollar property target. We have a responsibility to support efforts made by the Red Crescent Organization and the good work they do around the world. It is important that we all do our bit to help and the show of support from some of the legends of world sport has been overwhelming. We will continue to work on providing more funding for Red Crescent and support the fine work they do with further charity driven events,” commented General Manager – Hospitality, Leisure & Golf Dubai Sports City

The Els Club event comes a little under a month after TDIC, master developers of Saadiyat Island hosted the Inaugural Saadiyat Beach Classic with course designer and legend of the game Gary Player 40 minutes down the road in neighbouring Abu Dhabi. At the event closing Gala dinner guests were presented with a host of auction items to raise money for a host of charities. One of the highlights of the evening was a one-of-a-kind classic 1976 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow with the body hand-painted by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rays being donated by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) for auction to raise funds to help fund relief efforts in the wake of Haiti’s recent catastrophic earthquake. This stunning masterpiece in motion raised AED 155,000 to aid Haiti victims and assist with growing relief efforts.

“This is what it is all about. It is great to bring people together on a great golf course, although what really makes the difference is raising money for charity. We are very fortunate to play golf for a living and as such it is important to give back to those less fortunate. It is very satisfying to be the catalyst to bring all these people together, and to have done it for a worthwhile cause is the icing on the cake,” commented Gary Player following the launch of Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and the closing gala charity dinner.

La Quinta Golf and Country Club, in association with Talk Radio Europe, also hosted a fundraising gala dinner in aid of the Haiti earthquake victims. The evening of fine entertainment and charitable initiatives was attended by 276 guests with all proceeds from tickets, auction and raffle items being donated to the Ark Christian Fellowship. The Fellowship has over eight years experience in contributing to the improvements for orphaned children worldwide and will use the funds raised at La Quinta Golf & Country Club to initiate projects for several much needed orphanages in Haiti.

“The level of support experienced at our facilities has been a great thing to be a part of. We have fully supported the initiatives driven by our owners and have committed wholeheartedly to each and every event. Worthwhile causes such as the work our partnering charity organizations do are vital in order to assist those in need and nowhere more so than in Haiti right now,” commented Bruce Glasco, Managing Director, Troon Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa.
