The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership, are well into their arrangements for the biggest ever disabled team, Ryder Cup event, taking place at the Westerwood Resort and Hotel this July.  Each of the 4 teams participating in this inaugural event will have 12 golfers and be played over 4 days.

Participants will include golfers with all types of disabilities, like amputees, the deaf, blind and those with learning disabilities, as well as wheelchair users.  The World Team Cup will follow a brand new 3-day Scottish Championship at the Dullatur Golf Club and, thanks to some wonderful support from the 2 host golf clubs and strong sponsorship from across Scotland the SDGP is pulling together a package of golf, a week's hotel stay, and food and golf carts for golfers from around the world.

Steve Bramwell, the Secretary of the SDGP and Captain of the Scottish Team for the World Ryder Cup said, "2010 was our busiest year of operation since we created the group 6 years ago.  We now have more golf competitions, training sessions with the PGA and fun games, than any other disabled group.

The highlight of the year will undoubtedly be our Ryder Cup in July, but we have lots of golfers representing the SDGP, travelling around the UK and to several world and European events this year".

Golfers are attending from countries including, Germany, Canada, Ireland and South Africa, as well as the "Home Nations".  They will make up teams from Scotland, England, the Celtic Nations and a World squad.  The format for the four competition days will be foursomes, fourballs, and a modified scramble and finish off with the traditional singles game.  Combined with the 3-day Scottish Championship, which precedes the World Team Cup, competitors will end up by playing golf for seven out of eight days.  A gruelling but true test of golf.

The Scottish Disability Golf Partnership is governed and operated by disabled people and is the only group in Scotland which actively encourages and involves anyone of any age, with a disability, serious health problem or mobility issue and their coaches, who wish to play golf and includes amputees, the blind, deaf, those with learning difficulties, downs syndrome, stroke and heart attack victims, wheelchair users and anyone with other similar issues, who wish to learn or play the sport.
