Wii My Personal Golf Trainer with IMG Academies and David Leadbetter
Tuesday, 23 June 2009
You've probably aware of Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports and Tiger Woods Golf on Wii, but My Personal Trainer is taking aim at a different type of niche market.
My Personal Trainer is going to train you how to be a better golfer. It's going to do this with the help of Wii MotionPlus and the Balance Board along with one of the world's top golfing instructors, David Leadbetter.
You're welcomed by David Leadbetter, who has you take a golf practice swing, by stepping on the Balance Board. You hold onto the Wii Remote with both hands and you to hit a real golf shot by pressing and holding the A and B buttons, as well as the 1 and 2 buttons. You press your left thumb onto the 1 and 2 and your right pointer and right thumb are used for the A and B buttons, which enables you to form a natural golf grip on the Wii Remote Control.
Another golf swing prerequisite, is your weight distribution on the Balance Board and there is an on-screen indicator that lets you know exactly which way you're leaning. Once you hold your weight and the buttons for three seconds, you're free to 'grip it and rip it!"
Each part of the path of your golf swing is tracked perfectly and the same goes for your weight distribution. Following your 1st golf swing you're povided with a list of read-outs showing your swing path through the ball, created spin, a breakdown of how your weight transitioned and an exact path of your "club" as opposed to the ideal path of the club.
You'll also get a five-star rating detailing the quality of your backswing, transition and golf follow-through.
Leadbetter, will also recommend golf drills for you to try, should be able to tell you generally what you need to improve and give instructional videos on how to improve certain parts of your swing. You'll be able to cycle through video segments that show different angles of your golf swing and how your body is changing and moving throughout your swing. You can switch camera angles, slow it down or speed it up to get the best analysis possible from your living room.
My Personal Trainer with IMG Academies and David Leadbetter is scheduled to launch on Nintendo's Wii later this year. I am quite sure this will stir up quite a lot of interest with you golf fanatics out there who are looking for a better standard of play and trying to find the 'perfect golf swing'.

Will the world's most renowned golf coach state that the 'Stack and Tilt' weight distribution is flawed? When making posts, please do so only once to begin with and keep these civil. Do not personalise or be insulting - we are entitled to an opinion, please respect this.
Jim, thanks for your post and we appreciate you taking the time as a fully qualified PGA teaching pro to give us your assessment of stack and tilt. It will be interesting to see what Leadbetter has to say about this modern twist on a reverse pivot.
I also, look forward to teachers of this method coming forward. I feel it is only a matter of time before someone is sued for teaching promising youngsters this method - in terms of vicarious liability, I hope any golf union or coaches who is advocate such "trash" (to quote you) is well insured!
The Ed.
Be interestn 2 see what the stack and hack spin docs say bout this - will they have their own version called My Daftie Golf Trainer?

I will say unequivocally that the "stack and tilt" philosophy is absolutely trash. If you were to look at my own Book or DVD entitled, "Create Your Own Indelible Swing Memory" you would understand why Guthy-Rinker, the worlds' largest infomercial producer has contracted to distribute all ten of my works because of the truth in the materials presented.
World famous does not make someone right. It just allows them to be heard!

How and where does the body come into play?
Don't you think this program should include physical exercises, short and sweet, to help the golfer warm-up and get into the game?
Katherine
Just to follow up on my post,
There have been so many instructional books and theories which have and are bound to have critics. Having studied most of the top instructors, I have come to a conclusion that although I dont entirely agree with a certain theory, it is important to see and undertand the positives that it may bring.
Pelz vs Utley in the short game for example almost contradict. But you can take positives from both. Gary Edwin, Haney, Hardy, Mclean, Harmon, O´Grady all have different views on the swing, but you can take positives from all (as each of them have enviable reputations).
Hogans swing vs Jack Nicklaus swing, both different but positives from each are evident. You can use their idiosyncrasies and strengths and implement them to players who may need it. Different swings for different people etc.....
I dont want to trash new theories or even personally advocate them but instead try and understand their line of thought and extract the positives for my own knowledge and progression.
I agree that "stack and tilt" is very unorthodox. The creators, however, spend alot of time on the PGA Tour range week in week out and as such are "available" to players who are struggling. Leadbetter, Harmon and top instructors are busy people to get a hold of in a tournament week. As such players turn to Bennet and Plummer, both for direction and most of all confidence.
The "Stack and Tilt" image has been very much exaggerated. It isn't a dramatic reverse pivot as the upper body does remain "centred". Compression is the key advantage with this swing with irons, not so much with the driver as you can imagine. As for who can emulate such a swing? Someone in shape for starters!! Like Dean Wilson and Aarron Bad! The pelvic thrust motion post impact would not bode well for recreational golfers!
Im not personally advocating it, but I can understand why its taken off. There are many ways to hit a ball. And PGA tour players are extremely talented.
With the better players I coach, I often see them drift or move off the ball far too much and as such the lower body and upper body are not "centered" at impact. In such circumstances feeling like they rotate on one axis helps them for compression and ball flight.
PGA Coach/ DLGA Instructor
When you talk about --- David will "tell you" exactly how you are positioned, leaning to the side or back to far
Will this system provide "audio" instruction as well as visual to see rather than just reading text advice?
Thank you
Rick
In addressing where the BODY comes into play with this program, you will also have to purchase the Wii Fit balance board in order for the components to be complete. The balance board is a VERY SENSITIVE footboard that sits on the floor and is primarily used with the Wii Fit exercise system. It keeps up with foot pressure, balance, motion, etc. of your lower extremeties.
When will this be available for purchase? Where?
All I\'ve seen so far is hype!!!
Market pricing
At $100 in the US this is not cheap, but looks like a good market price. At $150 for the European version it looks like product marketing got it totally wrong. The only difference seems to be the NTSC driver has been replaced with a PAL driver. There\'s no language translation costs since it\'s just the same English version. There are no additional development costs (as there would be for a left-hander version) So why the $50 price hike?
Global market forces work both ways. At the equivalent of $100 in any European currency, it would be still expensive but there would be buyers. At $150 (£99.99 in the UK) people will see that they\'re being abused since they will already know the US price.
The golf equipment manufacturers already understood this years ago, so why don\'t the producers of this DVD/Wii product get the message? This is dumb marketing that failed 20 years ago.
